NOAA’s Environmental Data Management Committee is proud to host the 11th annual NOAA Environmental Data Management Workshop (EDMW). The workshop will be presented in an entirely virtual format. We are taking advantage of the opportunities that this online format affords, to both encourage broad participation in breakout sessions and to line up high caliber plenary speakers.

Mary Wohlgemuth

Mary S. Wohlgemuth is Director of NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Headquartered in Asheville, NC and with offices in Silver Spring, MD; Stennis Space Center, MS; and Boulder, CO, NCEI is the nation’s largest environmental information authority and archive. Ms. Wohlgemuth directs and oversees all operations and resources of NCEI, encompassing 40 petabytes of data and hundreds of scientists. She guides a robust set of use-inspired programs linking oceans, coastal, geophysical and climate science, stewardship, and services to best serve NCEI customers in government, commercial, academic and international sectors.

Prior to May 2017, Ms. Wohlgemuth served as the Technical Director of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport from 2012, leading a workforce of over 5,000 with an annual operating budget over $1 billion, responsible for conducting full spectrum life cycle research and development from acquisition, to production, to in-service engineering. She was dual hatted as the Director, Undersea Warfare Systems Engineering, where she was responsible for oversight of 12 technical warrant holders to ensure that the Navy maintains its position as the foremost technical authority over a broad portfolio of undersea warfare systems. Additionally, she was the Director for the Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) Integration and Interoperability program, with responsibility spanning domain leaders in surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and mine warfare across the naval enterprise.

Ms. Wohlgemuth served as NAVSEA’s Warfare Centers Corporate Business Executive, served as Director, Executive Management Program Office, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Civilian Human Resources, served in the office of NAVSEA’s Assistant Deputy Commander for Fleet Logistics Support, as well as the Command Task Force Lean Executive.

As Head, Torpedo Systems Department at NUWC Division Newport from 2001 to 2007, Ms. Wohlgemuth was the Navy’s first Technical Authority Warrant Holder for torpedoes, responsible for the technical leadership of the torpedo enterprise with a combined acquisition and maintenance value exceeding $8 billion.
